Graphic identity for Stadsbiblioteket Göteborg
Project: New graphic identity
Area: Design concept, branding
Client: Stadsbiblioteket Göteborg

Background
When Gothenburg City Library reopened in 2014 after three years of renovation, the classic building from 1967 had been extended to over 3,000 extra square metres. The former transit hall for hardcover books and images has been transformed into a meeting place, a living room, a free zone and a treasure house, all to be able to welcome more visitors and offer more activities and new media.

Case
We were tasked with designing a visual identity for the new library. An identity that was colourful, vibrant, approachable, personable and apolitical. The logo consists of stylized book spines that leave space for the name. The book spines are also used throughout visual communications, including as a pattern, a graphic element, and as colour plates in various printed matter. Sometimes they appear in the form of a stacked pile of books, and sometimes as tidy horizontal rows on the bookshelves.
